Opening Folders

PracticalKit works with any folder on your computer.

How to Open Folders​

Two ways:

  1. Click "Open Folder" in PracticalKit → Browse to your folder → Open
  2. Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl+O (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+O (macOS)

What Folders Work?​

Any folder with markdown files:

  • Project folders
  • Meeting notes directories
  • Document collections
  • Personal knowledge bases
  • Work folders
  • Empty folders (PracticalKit can create files)

PracticalKit sees:

  • All files in the folder
  • All files in subfolders
  • Files nested 10 levels deep

No file limit. 5 files or 5,000 files.

What Files Does It Read?​

Currently supported:

  • Markdown (.md)

More formats coming:

  • Plain text, CSV, PDFs, Word docs, and more

Your Files Are Local​

  • PracticalKit reads and writes files on your computer
  • Nothing uploads automatically
  • Only the content you ask about is sent to OpenAI for processing
  • You control what the AI sees
