Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions.

PracticalKit Won't Open​

Windows:

  • Right-click installer → "Run as administrator"
  • Check Windows Security settings

macOS:

  • System Preferences → Security → Allow PracticalKit
  • Right-click app → Open (first time only)

Linux:

  • Make AppImage executable: chmod +x PracticalKit.AppImage
  • Install dependencies: sudo apt install libwebkit2gtk-4.1-dev

Can't Open Folder​

Permission error:

  • Check folder permissions
  • Try a different folder first
  • On macOS: Grant file access in System Preferences

Folder too large:

  • Start with smaller folder
  • Large folders (100,000+ files) may be slow

Task Stuck or Frozen​

Stop and retry:

  • Click stop button
  • Wait a few seconds
  • Try task again

Restart app:

  • Close PracticalKit
  • Reopen
  • Try smaller task first

API Key Issues​

"API key not configured":

  • Click the prompt to enter your key
  • Make sure you copied the full key (starts with sk-)
  • Try clearing and re-entering the key

"Invalid API key":

  • Check you copied the correct key
  • Make sure the key is active on platform.openai.com
  • Try generating a new key

AI Not Responding​

Check internet:

  • AI features require internet connection
  • Check your connection

Check API credits:

  • Verify you have OpenAI API credits
  • Check usage at platform.openai.com

Wait a moment:

  • Large tasks take time
  • Check progress messages

Files Not Found​

Check file types:

  • Currently: .md only
  • Other types coming soon

Check nested folders:

  • PracticalKit searches subfolders
  • Check folder depth

Quality Issues​

Summaries too short:

  • Ask: "Create a detailed summary"

Missing information:

  • Ask: "Read all files and include..."
  • Be specific about what you need

Wrong files read:

  • Be specific: "Read files in the /docs folder"
  • Exclude folders: "Ignore the /archive folder"
